More Shred or Dead? Yeah, that’s right pal. It’s national Shred month.

Hey, you remember that sweet Shred cover? Yeah you do. Well, here’s a little time-lapse video where I go into go into great detail about all the fun easter eggs hidden in the cover and I definitely DON’T waste a bunch of time talking about being stuck in a cave:

NOT ENOUGH SHRED CONTENT? Jeez, calm down guys. OK. So, here’s some more initial sketches. The first is some test positions. These I think were one of the few times I actually referenced anything actually related to skate boarding. For anyone wondering, this comic is actually not a definitive work of real skate culture. There’s a talking cat (who everyone inexplicably hates) and a giant, flaming bird from another dimension in it.

Next, we have Sam’s sister Gearhead and the crew’s tormentor, the obsessive security guard, simply called “The Law”.

Fun fact, when you read the book (after you order a copy, of course) you’ll find that The Law looks different. That’s because when I got to his first appearance in the comic, the slimmer design didn’t feel to me like it was intimidating enough. It didn’t “occupy the space” like the character needed to.

Later, the original design was recycled for the mall security guard character, Chief Grabowski (a real tool).
