TALKIN’ TOKEN

As I let everyone know last month, my second graphic novel, Token City Wondercade, is now available for pre-order and will be release NEXT MONTH!

Although this is my second book being published by Top Shelf, it was actually created years BEFORE Shred or Dead. Spencer Holt (who co-wrote and added some gorgeous colors to Token) and I were working on comics together for a few years after meeting at a local Draw Night. Most of these were smaller projects, but we knew we wanted to do something on a larger scale.

I had a story I had been developing for years that I pitched him and we were off to the races. It was originally called “Midnight Warriors”, which was the name of the video game in the original treatment and was inspired by the old Utah Fun Dome (formerly the 49th Street Galleria), a local indoor…I guess, “fun dome” - despite it’s distinct lack of a “dome." My friend K.C. and I would get these “gift certificates” that paid for entry and few games in middle school.

By the time we were going, the place was already on it’s way out and it had a bit of a run down, creepy vibe. Almost…haunted. Hence the story of Token City and it’s employees!

And of course, as will all things, it has since gone the way of the dodo.

As I mentioned before, I started working on this story a long time ago. This first rendering of the main character, Izzy. I think is from all the way back in 2015.

With another update around maybe…2018? Something like that?

This was one of those projects were, against my strongest instincts, I didn’t go with the first design. I drew and re-drew and re-drew these characters until something like “my style” emerged.

Spencer and I shopped Token around to agents for a year to…very little success lol.

HOWEVER…Both Token and Shred take place in the same fictional city and after Top Shelf picked up Shred or Dead, I soon after also slipped them a little note about Token and…HERE WE ARE!

We’re really excited to finally have this one finally out there. Telling Izzy and the gang’s story has been waiting on the back burner for y’all to HIT THE START BUTTON!

Oh, and hopefully I’ll be keeping y’all updated on cons and appearance to promote the book in 2026. Watch here for the info as it updates.
