A BIG BUMMER!!!
I don’t know if this is really worth sharing, or if it even is a big bummer, but here we go lol.
Most of you probably know that I’ve been working on a self-published comic series called Shred or Dead. I’ve got a lot more to say about it soon but for now, for those who don’t know, it’s about weird little skater kids who battle each other (and some other wacky folks) for territory.
The reason I bring it up is because the initial spark of the idea for the series came when I was driving home from my mind-numbing nine-to-five and I finally noticed this little skate park near my home that I must have passed many times and never really thought about.
Skating is something that never held any interest to me and I’d never thought about trying before (too scary), but suddenly I was thinking about was: who were these kids at this park? Were they friends? Was everyone in little groups? Did they meet there regularly? Did they have their own little phrases and rules and… et cetera.
But earlier this week, I drove by on the same route home and noticed that the skate park, as well as much of the surrounding public park, had been completely leveled.
This really bummed me out. I had never skated there, of course (too scary), but I’d visited many times. I took photos there for promo and reference. Here’s a little promo video for Shred or Dead, Part 6 that was shot there:
I guess that’s how it goes though. Things change. We adapt. At least I can imagine that this little skate park is going to hopefully live on, in fictionalized form anyway, through Shred. I hope that the kids that were using it find another park they can access easily enough and that going there doesn’t mean an epic battle for territory.
I have no idea what is going to end up on that land in it’s place, but I hope that whatever it ends up being will serve the community like the park did.
If anyone hasn’t already checked out Shred or Dead, you can read the whole first issue on my website here.
BYE!
That’s all for this week. Goodbye.
